Dominick Joseph Trifero

Dominick Joseph Trifero, age 87, of Uniontown, passed away Thursday evening after an extended illness.

Born in Barnesboro, Pa. to the late Angelo and Rose (Romano) Trifero, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Trifero-Gillespie; special niece, Debra Monastra-Gaicki; brothers, Frank and Michael; sisters, Margaret Trifero, Jeanette Palmer, Mary Petush and Sarah Cutropia. Dominick graduated from Akron University with a Masters Degree in Education and was a Jennings Scholar. He taught for one year in Naples, Italy for N.A.T.O., and for 35 years he was the advanced math teacher at Ellet High School. He also taught math at Akron University. After retirement Dominick taught math at Walsh University. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in five pacific theaters and received five Bronze Stars. He was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Uniontown Lions Club, National Education Association and the Ohio Education Association.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anne (Monastra) Trifero; daughter and son-in-law, Rosemarie and Bruce Giffen of Hartville; son-in-law, John Gillespie of Richmond, Ky.; five grandchildren and spouses, Emily (Gus) Schneider, Sean (Amanda) Gillespie, Elise (Taylor) Russell, Brent (Margie) Giffen, Eric (Tiffany) Giffen; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Brooke and Dylan Giffen. Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. David Durkee as celebrant. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Nancy Trifero-Gillespie Scholarship Fund at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.
